A few years ago you needed to go to the bookshop and buy some expensive books about a country you wanted to visit. Today you can do it online, for free as we are living the long tail online. I visit official tourism offices, read stories and recommendations from strangers, can do a price-check and book online, without leaving my seat. I love to be living in 2008.
In May or June I’m planning to leave the Netherlands for two weeks or so. I like to do things I normally never do. Like walking in the nature, enjoy silence, breath fresh air, be in another country with other habits, languages, food and appearances. I prefer no luxury hotels, but hostels or tents. And public travelling through the country to observe the real life and not the Branded (pretty much romanced) life of the people. Internet provides you, before actually leaving, enough information to travel around the world this way.
Countries that have my attention are Norway (rout: Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, Oslo), Spain (route: Valencia - Malaga), Russia (St. Petersburg) or Croatia (coast with islands, dolphins etc.). Luckily I don’t have to decide today, but somewhere in March or so (to book a cheap plane ticket). Till then I’ll explore the destinations online.
Joe Pine II told us interesting stuff last monday at MoMo Amsterdam. Punk Media taped the video and shared it with the world on Youtube. Below the video’s, be inspired!
part 1-7
Your identity becomes more and more visible on the web and therefore also more and more important. Think of a job-interview. How do people you know encode the verbal and non-verbal digital messages you send out through the web? Think of pictures, topics you comment on, your brands on Hyves, friends on Twitter and on and on.

Personal Branding Blog, by Dan Schawbel
To be clear: everyone has his own personal brand. It contains thoughts from others about you. Branding is about recognize these thoughts and work (strategy) towards a more positive image of you on particular levels (segmentate/target!!) and at a particular target group.
I got an e-mail from Edwin, who is responsible for most of the technique behind Start4all.com, and he told me that Start4all.com is also compatible with Flock. A good reason to check it out for myself so see how much easier it becomes to update your Start4all.com blog once in a while.
If this message appears, all you have to do is to add your blog link and account login once. After that it’s blogging time and you get nice pop-up editor with all icons you are trained with in the time you used Microsoft Word. It is handy to see that your Flock editor checks if you type the words and sentences correct.
Have fun and give Flock a serious try. I’m impressed. When you use several social services such as Youtube, a blog, Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr, Del.icio.us etc. Flock makes live a lot easier.
Only negative thing I think is the loading time (is slow :-s)
Blogged with Flock
The last few days I did not manage to get one of the last tickets for Mobile Monday (MoMo) in Amsterdam tomorrow. Untill last night.. There was one cancelation and that gave me the opportunity to sign up for the event.
This is the fourth edition of Mobile Monday with Joe Pine as speaker. Joe Pine is writer of several books about business and economics and is one of the most asked speakers worldwide at this moment. In his presentation he will give his opinion on Mobile Metaverse. (dutch link: Emerce)
The event is not only about Joe Pine of course. Over 400 people (Marketing, Communication, Online Business, Mobile Business) will be there, which gives possibilities to get to know interesting new people during the event. There will also be some small presentations about online and mobile start-ups in the Netherlands.
thnx to Upstream
The buildings show you where the welth is in the world. Dubai, the center of the oil-world and therefore maybe even the center of our modern world presenst one after another great and imposant building. Below a short video about rotating skyscrapers.
I’m wondering if and when we have a new architectual project that we, citizens of the Netherlands, can be proud of. Like the ‘Afsluitdijk’, ‘Deltaplan’ and ‘Flevoland’. Maybe, alike Japan, a extension of Schiphol Airport in the North Sea. Maybe a large city of water-houses (that dry on water). Who will tell?!

The prestigious Coc d’Honneur prices for best marketeers ‘08 were given away this week in the Netherlands. All of them realy deserved the price for the great work they accomplished the last deccade (or so). I see them as the ‘heroes’ of our branche. They knew how to act at the right moment with the right decision more than once. More than that they became an example in their discipline and achieved to reach the status of inspirator.
Who needs heroes anyway? Everyone, I think. Small ones, like your parents dedication during your upbringing. Also bigger heroes like e.g. Ghandi, or -in my case- people that not only know how to survive in the exploding business of online marketing-communication (where the environment and its rules change within every few months) but also know how to reach above the average.
Because of the success of others, one of my business goals is to -also- bring our projects to another level in 2008 and not only that… also accomplish to perform individually and as company above average! Thát’s why we need heroes!
Ilse, my brothers girlfriend, sings in a band and also can play the piano. When her friend Edda drops by, they always went to the room with the piano and sing and play around the piano together. They both have a nice voice and therefore it was a pleasant suprise that they showed up on Youtube singing a slow piano version of Baby One More Time.
